She says that she has always taken a special interest in persons with dementia.

Your hosts:

Jytte Lokvig and Jan Olsen, your hosts, have several decades of working professionally with people in various stages of diverse dementias, as well as their families and caregivers. They are both passionate about seeing this vulnerable population receive the compassionate and dignified care they deserve and seeing that their caregivers have the support that they need to provide their best care.

Fun, social time and sharing, in a safe, non-clinical environment are part of the support offered at the Alzheimer's Cafe.

Please join us. We would love to meet you.

At the time I founded our café in 2008, I had no idea that we were the one and only Alzheimer's Café in the northern hemisphere; I just assumed that it would be as popular here as it is in Europe and many other countries.

Thankfully the movement is growing by leaps and bounds.

The start-up:

In the winter of 2007, I was Googling for information on "Alzheimer's" – something I had done hundreds of times before.

This time something new came up: "Alzheimer's Café."

– my immediate reaction was, "Wow!!! – this is bloody brilliant! (Shoot, why didn't I think of that?)"

It was like a breath of fresh air – so simple: An Alzheimer’s café is a place for people to just BE and enjoy themselves. It was a perfect fit with my own philosophy of bringing lightness and joy into the world of Alzheimer's.
